The Jasmine Kitchen – Whitechapel by Jen
I plan to hesitate to visit The Jasmine Kitchen again and again.
The Jasmine Kitchen feels like home as soon as you walk through the door. The seating is arranged on two levels with more informal sofa-style area tucked above canteen-style tables. Junie, the proud owner, made us feel immediately welcome and was happy to chat us through the menu, which had a mouth-watering range of Malaysian dishes, including Tom Yam Noodle soup, Penang Laksa, Thai Green Curry, Penang Chicken Rice and Nasi Lemak. Most of the dishes came with a choice of chicken, beef, prawns or vegetables as the main component.

My friend ordered the Nasi Lemak, a Malaysian chicken curry, served with boil egg, fried peanuts and cucumber on a bed of coconut Jasmine rice. The chicken looked very flavoursome while the cucumber added a refreshing note. I ordered the Penang Laksa with prawns. The prawns were succulent and the soup packed full of flavour.

The prices are incredibly reasonable, with our two main dishes coming to £11.

Junie also sells her own brand curry paste in jars, which my friend raves about and uses to marinade meat and flavour numerous other dishes.

I plan to hesitate to visit The Jasmine Kitchen again and again.
